Greece 14 day Grand Tour
14DAYS, 1978km | |||||
With the two weeks tour we get a deeper feeling of what Greece has to offer. The riding and traveling experience gets richer as we go through most of Greece’s natural and cultural palette. Big towns are avoided where possible. Back roads and a number of newer minor roads are used as well so to avoid traffic and give us the chance to have a closer look at the real Greek countryside.
Before departing from Athens we can do our first riding just outside town and eat fresh fish next to the sea and under the hill of the Temple of Xenios Zeus
We will travel through some unique Greek country and its old villages and visit the first ever Olympic Games site and see where the flame starts from since 776 BC. The summer is hot and the grass is no longer green here…so we ride down the mountains looking for a beach. We take the ferry cross to mainland and ride to Astako. This town is one of Athenians favourite seaside resorts for many years now. The ride is easy and the view ready to get photographed. Save some shots for the next day where the coastline is very inspiring. We turn right up all the way to western mainland. We enter the Vikos-Aoos National Park and we ride some of the most scenic corners of Greece. We stay at a preserved village hanging by the cliffs! Stupendous views |
|||||
We have 3 days to spend here. We can ride parts of this splendid region, meet the locals, visit the Oracle of Dodoni, the Museums and the market at Ioannina, or just pick a green spot and rest. Also, for you, we have organised River Trekking at the famous Vikos Gorge. Let’s take a walk in Greek paradise!
Next stop will be the “town of the beaver “ that is build next to a beautiful lake. The day after we will continue the trip by visiting Arctouros Environmental Centre, we will see brown bears in their natural environment and learn about them in detail. Siatista village will be our home at Day 9. We stay at a renovated 18th century mansion. The road takes us at Lake Plastira, a spot where the Gods of Olympus would have kept their country cottages! We rest for one more day and we go for some Rafting cut to our fitness. Continuing south, we stop at the uniquely preserved village of Korishades. Stone houses and natural smells surrounds our accommodation and the oak tree in the village square. Now that we have learned more about Greek roads we get one good snake ride down the mountains to our destination that is next to the shore. Galaxidi is a small traditional seaside village with long nautical history. Next day a scenic road will takes us through the Oracle of Delphi and all the way back to Athens. We return our wear off bikes and we have our last chance for shopping in the famous Monastiraki Flea Market and for a walk in the old town of Athens!
